Audio Metering

Written by Eddy Bogh Brixen and published by Broadcast Publishing & DK Audio, Audio Metering is a very useful reference for both student and professional audio user.

My thanks to the DK Audio representative at the AES Exhibition in Barcelona 2005 for thrusting this book into my hand. Having read through its 219 pages including an informative glossary section I can recommend this book to both student and audio professional.

As a keen advocate of audio measurement techniques back in my early broadcast days, I was pleased to see that this book brings many of those specifications together into one reference handbook. Particularly useful is the section dealing with the relationships between meter scales. Many users are often confused by the different relationships in levels when using different meters and operating levels. Eddy Bogh Brixen graphically displays how they relate to each in voltages and by meter calibration and dynamics. This is analogue understanding relevant in today's digital world.

The book covers Weighting Factors, Dynamics, Mutlichannel and Surround, as well as Digital Interfaces, Standards and Practices. Audio Metering is a helpful uncomplicated handbook which should be essential reading for any student wishing to learn their profession, as well as for the professional wishing to brush up on industry specifications and standards currently in operation around the world today.
